Split, beveled and polished buffalo horns painted red on the reverse, decorated with orange dyed horse hair, ermine fringes and wrapped seed beadwork over buckskin at tips, are attached to the skull cap. Black crow and blue dyed owl feathers (for US buyers they would be replaced by legal turkey feathers) are attached at the base of each horn.

The skull cap, made of braintaned deer hide, is covered with ermine fringes and has 24 ermine tubes hanging from the rear over a short detachable trailer of red wool white selvedge trade cloth, which is backed with antique printed cotton fabric (the ermine was acknowledged as a fierce fighter and source of good war medicine). Also 9 genuine old brass hawk bells are attached at the bottom of the trailer.

The browband is a strip of red trade cloth decorated with 2 rows of old time brass buttons.

All works are done with real sinew.

The bonnet is given an overall «aged» appearance to look and feel like a real old artefact from the Buffalo days.

«Northern Plains Ermine Split Horn Bonnet SKU 3006.19.01» is an artistic (with my personal touch) recreation in a style of Northern Plains (Crow, Hidatsa, Mandan) horned bonnets worn by leaders of Crasy or Foolish Dogs warrior societies.

Like a number of other items from my Plains Indian collection, where I gather the best specimens of Indian Warrior art and do not have much desire to part with them, «Northern Plains Ermine Split Horn Bonnet SKU 3006.19.01» is not intended for sale and if occasionally someone would be interested to buy it, I will be ready to sell only at a price indicated here as a fair minimum for such a splendid work.

Funny thing is that this year 185 insensitive lurkers indifferently glanced at the namerican item «Northern Plains Ermine Split Horn Bonnet», and none of them did dare to vote (like/dislike), share, bookmark, make a pin or submit any comment/feedback, much less to purchase it.
