Split, beveled and polished buffalo horns painted red on the reverse, decorated with orange dyed horse hair, ermine fringes, brass hawkbells and wrapped seed beadwork over buckskin at tips, are attached to the skull cap. Black crow and blue dyed owl feathers are attached at the base of each horn. From the tip of each horn, a pony-beaded buckskin thong is attached to the center of the cap.
The skull cap, made of braintaned deer hide, is covered with ermine fringes and has 24 ermine tubes hanging from the rear over a short detachable trailer of red wool white selvedge trade cloth, which is backed with antique printed cotton fabric. Also 9 genuine old brass hawk bells are attached at the bottom of the trailer.
The browband is decorated with old time brass buttons.
All works are done with real sinew.
The bonnet is given an overall «aged» appearance to look and feel like a real old artefact from the Buffalo days.

☩ Like a number of other items from my Plains Indian collection, where I gather the best specimens of Indian Warrior art and do not have much desire to part with them, «Northern Plains Ermine Split Horn Bonnet SKU 4067.18.01» is not intended for sale and if occasionally someone would be interested to buy it, I will be ready to sell only at a price indicated here as a fair minimum for such a splendid work.
